eFREIGHT 2030 opens first megawatt eHGV charging hub

It is the first of 35 megawatt eHGV charging hubs to be opened as part of eFREIGHT 2030.

The eFREIGHT2030 consortium has opened the first megawatt eHGV charging hub, at Kuehne+Nagel East Midlands Gateway.

It is the first of 35 megawatt eHGV charging hubs to be opened as part of eFREIGHT 2030.

The hub uses Voltempo’s HyperCharger technology, which can charge eHGVs in under 30 minutes.

The site features six DC charging bays, with a single megawatt HyperCharger pod, which distributes power across charge points, enabling flexible charging.

Simon Smith, CEO, Voltemp, said: “This first deployment of Voltempo’s HyperCharger at Kuehne+Nagel’s depot is a significant milestone for zero emmision freight.”

“As lead partner and charging infrastructure provider for eFREIGHT 2030, our focus has been on delivering infrastructure that works for real-world freight operations today, while being ready for the next generation of high-power electric and autonomous HGVs tomorrow.”

The hub will initially serve 12 eHGVs, including DAF XF Electric and Renault Trucks E-Tech T vehicles, operating on regional, national and international routes.

Kuehne+Nagel’s UK eHGV programme has already completed more than 150,000 miles.

The charge points do not have payment terminals, instead the system verifies the truck’s identity from the operator’s fleet list.

HyperCharger recently became eligible for Made in Britain membership, as it is substantially designed, engineered and manufactured in the UK.
