SAS Tech Services marks 25 years with Mercedes-Benz by adding first eActros 600

SAS Tech Services has marked 25 years of working with Mercedes-Benz Trucks by taking delivery of its first all-electric eActros 600, supplied by Midlands Truck & Van.

The Northampton-based company, which specialises in collecting end-of-life IT equipment for recycling, will run the truck on weekly round trips between the UK and Holland, covering around 80,000 miles a year.

The vehicle, pulling a double-decker trailer, will collect used technology from across Europe for distribution to UK recycling centres. With a real-world range of over 500 km, the eActros 600 will typically need only one charge per journey, with charging infrastructure en route supporting the cross-border operation.

Lee Spendlove, managing director of SAS Tech Services, said: “We’ve already had great experiences with our Mercedes-Benz eSprinter, so the move to an electric HGV was the logical progression. It is amazing! I’m a convert to electric.

“We have stuck with Mercedes-Benz for 25 years because nothing else matches their reliability. Daimler Truck UK and Midlands Truck & Van provide excellent service and support, so there has never been a reason to look elsewhere.”

The company has also added a new Actros L ProCabin 1853LS Gigaspace 4×2 to serve recycling centres across England, Wales and Scotland, covering more than 100,000 miles annually.

Both trucks were specified with features including a leather interior, microwave oven, chrome alloy wheels and LED lighting.
