Ford Trucks and IVECO sign joint development agreement for next-generation heavy-duty truck cabin

Ford Trucks and IVECO have signed a binding Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to co-design and engineer a new heavy-duty truck cabin platform, advancing a strategic partnership first set out in their March 2024 memorandum of understanding.

The JDA sets the framework for joint engineering and shared component sourcing, while allowing each brand to assemble the cabin at its own facilities and customise the final product for distinct branding. The modular cabin, scheduled for production in 2028, will meet the forthcoming EU Direct Vision Standard and improve aerodynamic efficiency to reduce emissions.

Güven Özyurt, general manager of Ford Otosan, and Emrah Duman, vice president of Ford Trucks, joined Iveco Group CEO Olof Persson and Luca Sra, president of Iveco’s truck business, for the signing ceremony in Istanbul.

Duman said: “At Ford Trucks, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of engineering excellence. This Joint Development Agreement is a testament to our capability to design and develop cutting-edge solutions that not only meet but exceed the industry’s evolving standards.”

He added that the partnership would “set new benchmarks in safety, aerodynamics and driver comfort, all while ensuring cost efficiency and regulatory compliance.”

Sra said the project would “allow both IVECO and Ford Trucks to remain at the forefront of the market, well-prepared to comply with new regulations and deliver exceptional quality and value to our customers.”

The development effort, which aims to produce a top-line modular cabin family, is backed by an estimated joint investment of €343m. Both companies say the initiative will deliver a higher-spec platform than originally planned, while achieving considerable investment savings through collaboration.
