Scottish agricultural and haulage business W J & J Green has introduced AssetGo’s fleet management and compliance software as part of efforts to improve maintenance oversight, vehicle compliance and operational visibility.

Based at Corskie Farm near Inverness, the family-run business operates a mixed farming enterprise alongside a haulage fleet of 38 vehicles, predominantly articulated bulk tippers working across the UK. The fleet also includes five eight-wheelers undertaking local quarry work and employs around 45 drivers.

The company implemented AssetGo in December 2025, replacing its paper-based defect reporting system with a digital platform providing real-time reporting of vehicle defects and daily walkaround checks. The business said the change has improved visibility of maintenance issues and strengthened record keeping, while allowing drivers to upload photographs alongside defect reports.

Graham Archibald, transport manager at W J & J Green, said: “I had experienced AssetGo at my previous employment and found it was the right platform we needed to manage our maintenance and daily walkaround checks.

“The business used to rely on paper defecting, which left you unaware of any issues until drivers returned on a weekend to hand in paperwork. Having live reporting allows us to monitor driver compliance along with receiving live feedback on current maintenance issues. Plus, being able to attach pictures gives the office a better understanding of what has failed and better decision making on rectification.”

Archibald said the business has already seen improvements in data recording and maintenance administration since introducing the platform and described the implementation process as straightforward.

He said: “We are still relatively new to the platform as a company, but I feel we have improved immensely on our data recording and the chasing up of information from maintenance providers.

“I feel it’s always good to improve and move forward with technology rather than sit with something that’s stuck in the past. At my previous employment, our dedicated Maintenance Manager felt this platform could have taken us through to Earned Recognition.”

Looking at the wider operational benefits, Archibald said the system provides greater confidence that drivers are completing compliance procedures while helping reduce vehicle downtime through faster reporting of defects.

He added: “For me, it’s knowing that our drivers have the ability to prove at the side of the road that they have been compliant by following the procedures expected of them, with everything recorded on the app on their phone. Good maintenance must always be a plus for any customer base reliant on haulage for their business to function, and prompt defect reporting helps to reduce downtime.”
